Herb and Root Bitter “Elixir Sancti Vigilii” - Villa de Varda
Herb and Root Bitter “Elixir Sancti Vigilii” - Villa de Varda
This Amaro follows a historic recipe from the Dolzan family, handed down through the generations like a precious treasure, especially during the First World War, when the tradition risked being lost. The unique properties of each herb used were studied by Pietro Andrea Mattioli, a renowned botanist and doctor in the service of the prince bishop during the Council of Trent (1545-1563).
The original herbal blend has been carefully passed down over the centuries and is today preserved in the Villa de Varda museum. Given the historical importance of this bitter-elixir, the Dean of the Cathedral of Trento entrusted the mission of reproducing this precious herbal and root liqueur, baptizing it with the name of Elixir Sancti Vigilii , in honor of the most famous and illustrious prince-bishop of Trento and patron saint of Trentino .
